We Buy Books, Records, CD's, and Ephemera
THE BOOKWORKS selectively buys used, rare and out-of-print books in over fifty subject
areas. We also buy CDs, LP records and antique photographs, paper collectibles and
prints.

discuss any items you're interested in selling. It's helpful if you can provide information
regarding the quantity of items you're selling, authors, subject areas, and condition.

· WHEN ARE BUYERS AVAILABLE? Buyers are usually available during the day Tuesday
through Saturday or by appointment. We strongly recommend that you CALL FIRST to
confirm specific dates and times before bringing items to the shop.
· WHAT BOOKS ARE YOU INTERESTED IN BUYING? We always look for rare, out-of-print,
and antiquarian titles but we also consider general stock in both hardback and paperback
editions. We buy in over fifty subject areas and are especially searching for "classic"
titles in both literature and nonfiction categories.
· WHAT CONDITION DO THE BOOKS HAVE TO BE IN? Bookworks only buys books in
Very Good to Fine condition. This means all books must have tight and clean bindings
and no damage, markings or soiling. It's also helpful if the hardback editions have
their original dust jackets.
· HOW MUCH DO YOU PAY? Our book and record buyers evaluate each item separately
to determine our selling price and offer a percentage based on that amount. The percentage
we pay varies depending on what you're selling. By remaining in business for nearly
20 years, we've demonstrated that we pay very well for better quality material.
· WHAT BOOKS DON'T YOU BUY? We definitely do not buy damaged or marked books,
encyclopedias, textbooks, or sets of books that are missing volumes.
· DO YOU MAKE HOUSECALLS? Housecalls are available on short notice within
the Chicago area or out of town. Generally these are arranged for larger private
collections or rare books and recordings . Call or email us to discuss the items
your're interested in selling (if a buyer is not available, you will be contacted
within 48 hours).
· WHAT LPs/CDs ARE YOU BUYING? Music areas such as Blues, Jazz, Classical,
World Music and Vintage Rock are what we're primarily interested in purchasing. Recordings must
be in fine condition. If you have other types of music call us to discuss options.
· WHAT ABOUT PAPER COLLECTIBLES, PRINTS AND ANTIQUE PHOTOGRAPHS? Call us with
a description of what you have. Older photos of outdoor/occupational scenes, travel
ephemera, early advertising, and early fashion magazines are just a few examples
of the types of things we purchase.
